Job Description
Leads the civil engineering division/program within Shumaker Consulting Engineering and Land Surveying, D.P.C. (SCE). Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative, and in accordance with the firm’s standards, policies, practices, philosophies, and that have a far-reaching impact on extensive engineering and related activities of the company. Negotiates critical and controversial issues on behalf of the company with senior level engineers and representatives of other organizations and companies. Individuals at this level demonstrate a high degree of integrity, ethics, creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive engineering programs and activities, including aggressive and progressive marketing for the department. Receives direction and supervision from the president of SCE.

Managerial Responsibilities
Supervises several subordinate supervisors or team leaders, and counsels and mentors staff with regard to professional standards, as well as the company’s values and culture. As an individual employee, assigns subordinate engineers and technicians to individual projects. Recruits staff appropriately in accordance with workload and backlog for department.

Communication Skills
Negotiates critical and controversial issues with Senior-level engineers and officers of other organizations and companies. Conducts presentations and represents his/her organization at important functions or conferences as required.

Technical Responsibilities
In a supervisory capacity responsible for the engineering department. The programs are of such complexity that they are of critical importance to overall firm objectives, consisting of several segments requiring subordinate supervisors. Is responsible for deciding the kind and extent of engineering and related programs needed for accomplishing the objectives of the organization, for choosing the scientific approaches, for QA/QC, for planning and organizing facilities and programs, and for interpreting results.

Experience and Education
10+ years experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, plus appropriate continuing education
Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
Member of professional societies
