The GIS Intern will perform entry-level tasks using geographic information systems (GIS) under the supervision of the senior planning department staff. The Intern will serve as technical staff assistant within San Bernardino County Transportation Authority’s Data Management Office. This is an excellent opportunity for interested students to get real-world experience with GIS applications in a government setting.

• Assist with update and maintenance of data layers
• Analyze aerial photography
• Organize geographical data in preparation for analysis
• Assist in the preparation of various reports, documentation, routine correspondence and presentation materials to support SBCTA projects/programs
• Perform miscellaneous filing, archiving, field work, and other duties as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Current enrollment in a recognized 4-year college or university, or graduate students, with coursework in geographic information systems with a major study area in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geography, Engineering, Biology, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge and skill in GIS design and GIS software including ArcGIS.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently, efficiently and cooperatively.
• English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation. 
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and eligible to work in this country as determined by the U.S. Immigration Laws and the Department of Homeland Security.
• Possession of a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance.
