Position Purpose
The AV Engineer II provides consulting, design, engineering, and drafting of digital audio/digital video/digital control systems used in learning spaces, public assembly spaces, research spaces, and social spaces. The AV Engineer II provides subject matter expertise to leadership to inform AV ervice strategy.
Key Accountabilities
System Engineering
- System design, engineering, drafting, equipment specification, and cost analysis
- As AV engineer of record, provides engineering services for major projects including consulting on program development/basis of design and coordination with other design professionals.
- Creates and regularly updates standard AV designs and build packages for consistent campus wide deployment
- Programs, configures, and tests control systems, computer controlled digital signal processors, routers and mixers
- Provides engineering expertise to leadership for the purposes of building strategic roadmaps and budgets. Percentage of Time 40%
Research and Development
- Maintains expertise in digital imaging, signal routing, remote management, and professional integration practice and workmanship.
- Conducts general and project-specific technology research to ensure best choice of available solutions for the performance
required of a given project or service.
- Develops and maintains relationships with technology manufacturers, channel partners, and campus partners.
Percentage of Time 30% Service Continuity
- Reconfigures and rebuilds system software and hardware. Demostrated subject matter expertise in AV systems and design. (Level 3 support)
- Mentors Classroom Technology team members and students to resolve novel issues and provides workarounds that may require modest hardware modifications to the AV system (Level 2 support).
- Restores service using defined troubleshooting and repair methods. Provides subject matter expertise in AV system operations (Level 1 support).
- Analyzes logs and status reports to predict and mitigate downtime risk.
- Designs AV System alerts and develops appropriate escalation processes.
- Develops and manages the AV systems design and lifecycle documentation.
- Builds and protects Dartmouth College intellectual property related to proprietary AV system designs.

Required Qualifications - Education and Years Experience
- Bachelor’s or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications-Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Electronics, or Engineering, or equivalent technical certifications, plus 4-6 years of large scale AV project implementation or equivalent level of work experience.
- Demonstrated conceptual, design, engineering, and drafting skills.
- Innovative; excellent problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan, and effectively contribute to multiple projects or initiatives on different schedules, staffed by different teams
- Expert knowledge of network and server system operations,A/V streaming, collaboration and remote connection technologies expertise.
- Strong background in applied electronics.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to interact positively with faculty, students, and staff.
- Enjoys and values mentoring others
- Requires frequent lifting, bending, and twisting. Frequent work on ladders or scaffolding.
- A valid driver’s license is required and the ability to maintain a good standing on the College approved driver’s list.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Lead Project Engineer at a major renovation level.
- IT Programming skills (PHP, JSON, GO, HTML5)
- Experience with CAD, Stardraw, or REVIT
- Advanced Audio DSP knowledge and skills
- Advanced AV manufacturer and industry certifications (eg: QSC Level II, Dante Level 3, AVIXA CTS , CTS-D or CTS-I etc.)
- Data network skills certification (eg: CompTIA Network+; AVIXA AV Networking)
Location of Position
37 Dewey Field Rd rm 10. This position offers a hybrid opportunity to work both remotely and onsite and therefore requires that the incumbent reside within a commutable distance to Hanover, NH.
