NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking an Energy Markets Specialist to join our team. Use your skills, experience, and talents to ensure delivery of energy supply obligations including strategizing monthly scheduling, managing hydro allocations, managing congestion hedging, and participating in market working groups.

The Energy Markets Specialist supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
Reviewing and approving daily load and resource positions; collaborating with a third-party energy market manager to identify financial risk and develop trading and hedging strategies and coordinating with Service Participants in accordance with their operating strategies.
Serving as liaison between the third-party energy market manager and the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) market team and analysts; gathering input from other internal departments to evaluate potential market; communicating and collaborating with the external dispatch operator regarding ideas, concerns, and adjustments to further develop and approve or reject strategies; identify, evaluate, and implement improved practices and processes.
Advocating for fiscal control and accuracy by ensuring representation of MEAN’s interests on related committees, assisting with negotiations, reviewing billings, assisting the development of, and tracking to the budget, and coordinating with other departments.
Coordinating with third-party energy market manager to optimize schedules to best meet our balancing area needs and consult in the scheduling and modification of resources based on contracts and the status of each unit.
Working with market participants to move forward in the implementation of a Regional Transmission Organization and any other potential markets impacting MEAN load.
Reading and ensuring compliance with contracts impacting electric operations; reviewing, evaluating, and commenting on potential new contracts under consideration and their impacts on operations activities
Contributing to growth and long-term viability of MEAN by participating in the development and execution of MEAN’s strategic plan.
Attending board meetings as required and ensuring representation at energy market related, Regional Transmission Organization working groups and other working group meetings regarding energy market trends, issues, and operational impacts; create verbal and written communications to members and staff regarding operational issues.
Creating monthly hydro schedules; emailing and uploading within the timeframe requested to all parties requiring the information.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to organize, manage time, and implement processes that ensure reports and submittals meet strict deadline requirements.
General analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel.
Ability to learn and stay informed of frequent changes to industry regulations.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Industry experience preferred but not required.
