The City of Dublin is hiring a Transportation Associate Civil Engineer! The ideal candidate for the Associate Engineer (Transportation) role is a knowledgeable, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic municipal environment and demonstrates strong technical expertise in transportation planning, traffic engineering, traffic operations, and project delivery.
They manage and perform complex engineering assignments related to the planning, design, review, and implementation of roadway, traffic signal, safety and multimodal improvement projects, while also managing project scope, schedules, budgets, consultant coordination, construction, and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate has experience in transportation planning efforts such as corridor studies, active transportation improvements, traffic impact review, circulation planning, and safety programs. They are experienced in plan and specification review for capital improvement and private development projects. They are skilled in traffic signal timing, signal coordination, traffic safety analysis, and operational improvements that enhance safety and efficiency. Experience preparing grant applications, administering grant-funded projects, preparing technical reports, and supporting capital improvement delivery is highly desirable.
This candidate is an effective communicator and collaborative leader. They can mentor junior staff and coordinate with internal departments, consultant, developers, regional agencies, and the public. They present technical information clearly to management, City Council, commissions and other decision-makers. They are committed to delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality transportation infrastructure.
General Purpose:
Under general administrative direction, supervises and performs varied and complex professional civil and traffic engineering work in connection with the design, construction, maintenance and plan reviews of street improvements; may oversee contract compliance activities as they relate to construction contract procedures; and prepare plans, specification, progress reports and other engineering materials; and performs related work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the journey level in the professional engineering class series. Positions in this class perform complex professional engineering work and coordinate the work of lower level professional and technical staff. Appointment to this level requires considerable administrative, analytical and technical skills acquired by professional training and experience. Incumbents of this classification are expected to have considerable knowledge in traffic and transportation, right-of-way acquisition, California Map Act, current development and capital improvement projects.
