Under supervision of the City Engineer, the Engineering Aide serves in a supporting role by performing civil engineering duties and tasks, including drafting, in-the-field inspections of public infrastructure projects, materials testing, and surveying. Successfully discharging these duties requires operation of a city vehicle and specialized equipment related to job tasks. The Engineering Aide may lead and direct the work of survey parties performing preliminary surveys and layout work. The capability to operate electronic survey equipment for surveys and construction stake outs is an essential job function. The Engineering Aide will also prepare blueprints and special descriptive drawings for City projects. The Engineering Aide must possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills and meet with residents to discuss and answer questions about City projects.

The minimum qualifications required for this position include:

• Associate's Degree from an accredited university, college or technical institute with a major in civil engineering technology, drafting, surveying, mathematics or other related field.
• Working knowledge of computer programs, including Word, Excel, database and drafting software.
• Appropriate state certification when required for select projects.
• Ability to interact effectively with contractors.
• Must have a valid unrestricted Michigan's Driver’s License.
