ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER
The Electrical Project Engineer reports to the Senior Electrical Engineer in the Electrical and Fiber Unit within the Utilities Engineering Division. This position oversees staff who support the delivery of critical Capital Improvement Projects and safe and reliable services to utility customers and is responsible for overseeing and managing electric and fiber optic utility projects, from conception through design and construction. The Electrical Project Engineer performs project management for major Capital Improvement Projects including engineering design, bid evaluation, contract administration, project scheduling, inter-utility coordination, quality control, and field decisions and supervision to ensure projects are completed.
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/POWER ENGINEER SERIES
The Assistant/Associate/Power Engineer series position also reports to the Senior Electrical Engineer in the Electrical and Fiber Unit within the Utilities Engineering Division and will be responsible for developing electrical engineering designs, specifications, cost estimates, and preparing written reports for electric utility maintenance and construction programs associated with various Electric and Fiber Utilities’ Capital Improvement Projects. These projects provide new service, or upgraded existing service, to customers, and replace or rehabilitate the City’s electric/fiber systems and infrastructure. This position requires a strong project manager with an ability to meet critical project deadlines, and a technical background in distribution system operations and engineering.
This position is part of a classification series and placement into this series (Assistant, Associate or Power) is dependent on years of experience and level of expertise.
BOTH POSITIONS:
- Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and skills, which would typically be acquired through:
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering (with power option or equivalent experience) and
- Assistant Power Engineer: this is an entry level position and no prior work experience is required
- Associate Power Engineer: Two years increasingly responsible electric utility related engineering experience.
- Power Engineer: Four years increasingly responsible electric utility related engineering experience.
- Electrical Project Engineer: Three years increasingly responsible electric utility engineering and project management experience.
- Valid California Driver's License.
ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER:
- In addition to the qualifications listed above, the Electrical Project Engineer must be a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California.
