About Town of Fountain Hills
The Town of Fountain Hills is a beautiful community in the Valley of the Sun nestled in the foothills adjacent to Scottsdale and close to downtown Phoenix. The centerpiece of Fountain Hills is one of the world’s tallest fountains that attracts thousands of visitors annually. Fountain Hills consists of 20.32 square miles and is adjacent to the McDowell Mountains to the west, the Fort McDowell Tribal Community on the east, the Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community on the south, and the McDowell Mountain Regional Park to the north. The community is 80% built out with opportunities for new commercial, residential development, and redevelopment. The Town has a population of approximately 24,000 with a projected population of 34,324 at build out in 2030. Fountain Hills’ climate and close proximity to cultural attractions provide a quality of life that is second to none. The Town of Fountain Hills has one of the finest municipal art collections in Arizona located throughout the civic center and downtown area. The community is also known for its numerous art festivals, street fairs, farmer’s markets, special events, and concerts. Fountain Hills Theater offers numerous plays and ...musicals popular with residents and visitors. Restaurants, performing arts, museums, shopping, and major league sports are either found in or near Fountain Hills. While Fountain Hills is nestled in the foothills, it is minutes away from Scottsdale, downtown Phoenix, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. With a low crime rate, residents appreciate a small town atmosphere while enjoying quality municipal services and big-city amenities just a few miles away. The Fountain Hills School District has a stellar reputation in the delivery of quality K-12 education. The Fountain Hills Charter School offers education for kindergartners through eighth graders and there are also private educational facilities available. Residents have easy access to medical facilities in town as well as the HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. Fountain Hills is an outdoor paradise with four community parks, a 740 acre mountain preserve, and numerous hiking trails and washes. The Town’s namesake and landmark Fountain Park, is a 64-acre park located in the downtown. The park includes a 29-acre lake with a “world famous fountain” that sends a jet stream up to 560 feet into the air. The park includes an 18-hole championship disc golf course, Veterans Memorial, walking paths around the lake, a children’s splash park, and a children’s playground. There are four 18-hole golf courses in town and three additional courses within ten miles. Hiking trails in the McDowell Mountains, McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Four Peaks, and Saguaro Lake Recreation areas are moments away. TOWN GOVERNMENT The Town of Fountain Hills is an Arizona Municipal Corporation, acting as a general law Town as prescribed in the Arizona Revised Statutes. The Town was incorporated in 1989 with the governmental and administrative affairs of the Town operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested under the Town Council, which consists of a Mayor and six Councilmembers. The Town Council is responsible for the adoption of local ordinances, budget adoption, development of citizen advisory committees, fees for service, and hiring of the Town Manager. Councilmembers are elected to staggered four-year terms. The Mayor is elected biennially by the voters and presides over Town Council meetings. The Vice-Mayor is selected by the Council every eight months on a rotating basis.
