We are seeking a California licensed professional engineer with environmental or geotechnical experience who aspires to have a positive impact on the strategic direction of KMEA and can work collaboratively with professional engineers, EITs, scientists, technical leads and senior management. While the position is based in San Diego, project opportunities span the country. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE may be available for this position. The position reports to the COO.
Serving as Senior Engineer on multi-discipline project teams addressing environmental requirements for sites under the Defense Environmental Restoration Program, including former or active DoD installations.
Oversight of environmental compliance projects, including EPCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and TOSCA.
Preparing and providing technical input for scopes of work and independent government estimates for Architect-Engineer (A-E) or other services contracts.
Serving as technical lead in the resolution of complex field problems.
Conducting site visits, site inspections, and field oversight during remedial activities for quality assurance reviews.
Composing correspondence and recommendations regarding design modifications and the best methods of solving design problems.
Resolving complex challenging issues to benefit our clients.
Managing local and national projects.
Acting as the primary point of contact with client and assuming full responsibility for project delivery.
May be responsible for project teams that include 10 or more members often representing multiple business lines and subcontractors, with the potential to work in remote locations.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field required; Masters Degree preferred.
Minimum 15 years’ experience in design, project management, and field operations, including construction.
Registered professional civil or geotechnical engineer, State of California; additional states a plus.
Experience managing projects with a $5M-$20M contract value ($25M-$100M construction value).
Knowledge of and competency to plan, scope, coordinate and oversee planning/design for multimedia compliance, site investigations, feasibility studies, remedial design, remedial action construction, and long-term management activities for project sites.
Recent/current work experience required with projects under contract with DoD clients such as the Navy, Air Force, Army Corps or other Federal entities as it applies.
Strong theoretical background preferred with experience in applying analyses to practical solutions, including computer modeling and seismic analysis and designs.
Understanding of regulatory and permitting environment.
Marketing and business development skills a plus.
Ability to supervise and direct junior staff
Strong communication skills required.
Thorough familiarity with computerized applications including Microsoft software and engineering applications.
Ability to work with limited supervision; organized; energetic and enthusiastic; and ability to build productive working relationships within the firm and with project teams.
Ability and willingness to travel periodically.
Valid California driver’s license required and must meet KMEA’s auto insurability requirements.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, MVR check, and federal government background check.
Must prove eligibility to work in the US.
