JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Mechanical Superintendent or senior level Mechanics, assists with construction, repair and maintenance of hydro generation plant equipment or other auxiliary equipment. This is an entry-level position in the District’s Generation Mechanic job series. Successful incumbents continuously demonstrating Mechanic aptitude typically enter into the Mechanic Apprentice program within 12 months.
JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily.
QUALIFICATIONS: The qualifications listed below are representative of those required, but reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Post-Secondary Education: Two years college education, two years trade school with technical emphasis, or comparable work history is desired.
Experience: Typically requires six (6) months work history demonstrating mechanical aptitude and ability to perform physically demanding work.
Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Candidate must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Complexity: Completes standard, routine tasks of limited scope. Applies technical knowledge and skills to tasks.
Decision Making: Follows established procedures and priorities. Escalates problems or issues to supervisor.
Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Maximo (required) Asset Management, Maintenance, Inventory and Order Processing software; Microsoft Excel (preferred) Spreadsheet software; Microsoft Word (preferred); and printers.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather) and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; in confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather); risk of electrical shock and vibration; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually loud.

A valid driver's license is required at hire. A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
Must possess or obtain within six months from hire date, First Aid and CPR certifications.
