In addition to leading the transportation design projects, this position will bring proficiency in responding to documented traffic safety concerns utilizing established engineering guidelines; conducting transportation safety and operational engineering studies, road safety audits, and collision reviews; implementing transportation system improvements to accommodate all users consistent with the City of Austin’s Complete Streets policy; and developing strategies and policies for improving safety and mobility. The preferred candidate will provide technical assistance and successfully collaborate with various City of Austin Departments, local and regional agencies, and public stakeholders to develop improvements. They will respond to inquiries by Mayor and Council, City Manager’s Office, and other agencies regarding transportation issues.  This position will represent the City of Austin at public meetings with neighborhood groups, community stakeholders, Commissions, Boards, and/or other regional and local agencies.   Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a versatile senior engineer, bringing the following preferred qualifications to transportation safety projects to accommodate all users: Experience in leading or supervising technical staff, including managing workload. Proficiency in analyzing crash data, developing appropriate crash countermeasures, scoping safety improvement projects, and reviewing or designing plans through the PS&E process. Proficiency in signal operations and geometric design. Organizational skills to manage and monitor multiple safety improvement projects from inception to implementation. Experience in City of Austin’s Criteria Manuals, AASHTO Green Book, Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD), NACTO’s Design Guide, speed management principles, and other industry recommended practice and transportation safety engineering resources. Ability to provide technical input and strategic direction to multiple work teams by coordinating across ATD divisions, other departments, contractors, external stakeholders, and partner agencies to accomplish organizational goals. Effective written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including meetings and public events. Working knowledge of computer-aided design programs such as Autodesk or Bentley products, crash analysis software, traffic simulation software, and MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).   Minimum Qualifications: Engineer C Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
