The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects. Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice that is responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of talented architects and engineers who are driven to deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools. We have excellent opportunities for Engineers who are responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
Responsibilities include:
Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed.
Provide overall coordination for in-house design projects.
Perform and/or supervise the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies.
May function as a project leader; perform design review of work prepared by other engineers/architects.
Monitor the progress of the construction phase of the project; conduct site observations; prepare field reports.
Supervise the review of contractor’s submittals; review reports; perform design review of work for multiple projects.
Perform review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects.
May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings; work on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g., special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects.
Train new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures.
May coordinate the work of consulting firms; assist in preparing new design standards and procedures.
May coordinate the work of consulting firms and/or individual consultants and contingent staff on projects.
May perform duties of Engineers at other levels
Minimum Qualifications:
All levels require a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and a Baccalaureate degree; plus.
Level - B requires: Three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader
Level - C requires: Six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.
Specialty in Electrical, HVAC, or Structural a plus.
Salary dependent upon experience:
Level – A: $80,691.00 - $125,803.00
Level – B: $94,242.00 - $146,870.00
Level – C: $99,422.00 - $161,531.00
