The City of Long Beach (pop. 470,000) is located on the Pacific Ocean, south of Los Angeles, adjacent to Orange County. Reporting to the Public Works Director, the City Engineer manages two Bureaus, Engineering and Traffic and Mobility, comprised of five divisions supported by 91 FTEs. Strong technical expertise in Public Works infrastructure planning and design is essential, complemented by strong leadership and project management skills. The ideal candidate must be a visible and accessible working manager who fosters a cooperative, collaborative, and responsive environment. The ability to communicate a vision and generate momentum within the team will also be expected.
