Job Details
Lead the development of Transportation Demand Management programs for the City that encourage a shift in travel behaviours and the increased use of alternative modes of travel. Research, design, implement, evaluate, and report on City Transportation Demand Management initiatives and plans. Develop and implement community outreach strategies, public education programs, and marketing tools to promote and strengthen community support for public transit, active transportation and transportation sustainability initiatives. Establish and maintain relationships with community groups and stakeholders to advance projects. Contribute to and manage projects that further the City of Peterborough’s goals to increase the mode share of sustainable transportation, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in transportation, and enhance community health and wellness.
Qualifications
Knowledge and experience normally associated with a 4 year University Degree or Community College diploma in Engineering Technology, Transportation Planning, Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Urban Geography, or a related field; and has a minimum of five years previous experience in a related field. Requires knowledge of relevant municipal and provincial legislation and standards (e.g. Municipal Act, Highway Traffic Act, Planning Act, Transportation Association of Canada Manuals, Ontario Traffic Manuals).
Must have well-developed interpersonal and communication (verbal, written, and presentation) skills to build effective relationships within the organization and throughout the community; successful facilitation and negotiation skills; the ability to problem-solve beyond conventional methods, champion change, gain the cooperation of others, and build confidence and trust among peers and community partners. Must possess demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the areas of marketing, public education, transportation planning, active transportation, and project and budget management.
Requires an individual with demonstrated skills in program design and planning, development, and implementation; strong organizational, time-management and project-management skills; the ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate a number of projects at one time; and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must have experience in the collection and analysis of transportation related data, including travel surveys; traffic, pedestrian, and cyclist counts; and infrastructure inventories. Must have a creative/innovative focus on service delivery and a commitment to continuous improvement and quality customer service. Demonstrated experience in areas of proposal/grant application writing and evaluation and project management.
Demonstrated commitment to active and efficient transportation, including walking, cycling and transit. Experience working with equity-seeking populations and advancing projects that promote inclusion and diversity would be an asset. Must be proficient in MS Office Suite including: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Database application software. Familiarity with ArcGIS or other GIS Mapping tools would be an asset. Must be able to attend meetings and locations throughout the City. Experience riding a bicycle and using public transit is an asset.
