Job Responsibilities

25% 1. Assists higher level staff in the Bureau of Air/Air Pollution Control (BOA/APC), Air Quality Planning Section (AQPS), Regulatory Development Unit, in the evaluation of emission control technologies applicable to industrial/commercial related emissions;

• Assists in developing supporting engineering data
• Participates and observes higher lever staff in the development of specialized tools (e.g., computer programs, data handling systems, guidelines, etc.) utilized for the analysis of the impact of industrial/commercial related activities to ensures the Agency maintains state of the art capabilities

25% 2. Assists in collecting engineering data and performing engineering analyses concerning current and future control technology as part of the regulatory development process. Develops technical support for the regulatory process;

• Assists in the evaluation of environmental control strategies to determine their applicability in Illinois and their effectiveness in reducing air pollution levels
• Assists in the drafting of technical support documents to be used in regulatory actions or State Implementation Plan submissions

25% 3. Assists in performing air quality analyses and engineering reviews of routine industrial/commercial related projects (e.g., as described in letters of intent, negative declarations, environmental impact statements, etc.); 

• Performs analyses of air quality emissions inventory, and emission trends to determine the nature of air pollution problems in the State of Illinois

15% 4. Assists in gathering and compiling data from Annual Emissions Reports for the purposes of preparing the state emissions inventories.

• Enters information into database

05% 5. Participates and observes higher level staff in providing testimony to the Pollution Control Board in support of regulatory proposals involving emission control technologies.

• Travels in performance of duties

05% 6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college with a bachelor's degree in an engineering science. Typically, the subject matter would involve the type of coursework associated with environmental (sanitary, hydraulic, hydrology, and air pollution specialties), civil (sanitary, hydraulic, and hydrology specialties), general, industrial, mechanical, chemical, public health, electronic, acoustical or aeronautical engineering or engineering mechanics or a closely related engineering specialty.
2. Requires no previous experience.
3. This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Requires the ability to utilize a personal computer and software applications such as MS Word and Excel software.
2. Prefers the ability to utilize Access or similar database programs
