Supervises, performs, and coordinates field engineering duties, including, but not limited to, design, mapping, issuing or approving work orders for construction and maintenance for the KPUB electric system. Responsible for operation and maintenance of SCADA and GIS software packages and Distribution and Substation maintenance programs, design, and project management.
Performs all job functions of Engineering Technician including determining the requirements for electric system expansion or improvement.
Responsible for programs such as substation maintenance, distribution circuit patrols, pole inspections, pole contacts, underground maintenance, energy efficiency rebates and/or distributed generation interconnection reviews.
Responsible for design and project management of substation and/or communications projects as required.
Responsible for installation, operation, and maintenance of SCADA system and coordinates with KPUB employees for effective use of the system.
Assess load requirements and identify project requirements such as permits and easements.
Perform cost estimates, plan material needs and follow up on progress of distribution projects from inception to completion.
As necessary, suggest projects in the Capital Improvement Budget forecast to ensure system integrity and reliability.
Works with staff and contractors to determine project scope and specifications for distribution, substation, and communications projects.
Responsible for utility coordination on joint utility construction projects and code compliance issues.
Supervision of assigned staff including oversight and review of work performed, providing guidance through staff development programs, and conducting evaluations.
Facilitate KPUB’s energy efficiency programs including rebates and audits, track and monitor effectiveness, and suggest program modifications based upon performance.
Applies customer policies regarding rates, line extension, and providing electric service.
All other assignments as directed by supervisor and General Manager.
Knowledge of electric distribution construction standards, materials, NESC, NEC, and KPUB design policy and demonstrated proficiency in all job responsibilities
Ability to train others and has specialized knowledge to serve as a subject matter expert.
Knowledge and experience with surveying, computers, database management systems, business enterprise software, and Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to provide coaching, mentoring, and training to employees supervised.
Ability to document training, best practices, and lessons learned
