The City of Springfield’s Department of Environmental Services is seeking qualified applicants for Professional Engineers (with option to underfill as Engineer III) for positions in both the Sewer & Stormwater Engineering and Development division as well as the Sewer Maintenance division. The Sewer & Stormwater Engineering and Development group is primarily responsible for sewer extensions, service connections, and permitting to serve development and redevelopment projects within the community as well as stormwater initiatives to support the City’s MS4 permit compliance. The Sewer Maintenance division is primarily responsible for leading work groups focused on operations and maintenance of a system-wide network of flow metering and monitoring stations as well as the city’s Private Sewer Repair Program.

Environmental Services is responsible for protecting the quality of the water resources in and around Springfield.  With over 1,200 miles of extensive and growing sanitary sewer infrastructure, Springfield has an award-winning wastewater collection and treatment system that is widely recognized as one of the most innovative wastewater utilities in the country. In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining compliance with the City’s municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) stormwater permit and has one of the preeminent MS4 programs in the country.
