HX5, in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center, is currently seeking a Rocket Propulsion Engineer. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
Provide chemical propulsion system support and insight or collaboration to contribute to the design and development of the Human Lander System (HLS).
Exercise creativity, scientific, and engineering judgment to prove or disprove the feasibility of ideas and devices concerning liquid propulsion system component selection and total performance.
Provide recommendations, analysis, and insight or collaboration on the design of cryogenic or storable liquid propulsion systems projects.
Provide propulsion and fluid system support for the analysis and/or insight of propellant transfer and delivery systems and components.
Review Data Requirement Documents (DRDs) and support Agency reviews.
Support the analysis and/or insight of propellant transfer and delivery systems and components including cryogenic propellants, coolant, and/or high-pressure helium.
Provide engineering support towards the refurbishment of Orion OMS-E hardware for delivery to Artemis missions.
Background in chemical rocket propulsion engineering, including system design and analysis.
General knowledge of in-space propulsion and propellant systems and components, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and integrated propulsion system design, operation, and analysis.
Background in propulsion sub-systems including pressurization and feed system analysis (including water hammer), igniters and ignition systems, injector design, and combustion stability.
Other Desired Skills:
A working familiarity with overall vehicle Systems Engineering principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical material.
A working knowledge of CFD or rocket or fluid analysis and modeling tools such as CEA, ROCCID, GFSSP, EASY5, ANSYS, FLOW3D, etc.

Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and 0-3 years of experience; or Master’s degree and 3-6 years of experience; or Bachelor's degree and 5-10 years of experience.

**Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance for the position.
