As a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Electrical Engineer, you will use your knowledge and experience to provide technical services and assistance (assessment/evaluation/ analysis/support) for turbine installations in the USA. In particular, this position will support the design, configuration, installation, and commissioning efforts of turbine electrical and SCADA systems on wind farms. This position can be physically demanding as projects sites are typically in remote locations, require ascending tall enclosed towers and involve working in cramped enclosures (tower, nacelle & hub) in difficult weather conditions.
Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and early operational stages of projects.
Primary responsible areas are wind farm SCADA and SGCS systems, nacelle and tower electrical systems, wiring and cables.
Ensure that SCADA and SGCS systems comply with all US based HSE and governmental regulations for electronic systems, including NEC, NERC, and FERC.
Ensure all WTG electrical systems comply with UL standards.
Data analysis, trouble shooting and documentation for grid code related topics
Collaborate with other Nordex engineers on project and product specific issues.
Trouble shooting electrical problems as identified by field personnel.
Investigate component and equipment failures as necessary.
Interface with customers, providing them technical reports and details. Localization of wind turbine components with US suppliers for Nordex’ US production facilities.
Respond quickly to inquiries from field personnel.
Disseminate knowledge of turbine systems, controls and operation to field technicians.
Take initiative in problem resolution.
Comply with Nordex safe work practices and procedures.
Frequent reporting of activities and findings to superiors.
Bachelors of Science degree with an advanced degree preferable, or equivalent work experience
Professional Engineer license preferred.
Minimum 7 - 10 years of experience.
Experience with programmatic (Compliance and Performance) audits / inspections including record keeping, and action-item resolution
Must possess the ability to think and analyze situations in a fast paced environment
Demonstrated ability to be innovative, initiate and manage change, and deliver results
Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential, most importantly strong team building skills within a rapidly growing environment
Must be capable of positively influencing the management team when necessary
Independent, detail-oriented, creative, tenacious, and flexible are essential characteristics
Proficient in the following application programs: Microsoft Office 2003 (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Standard, and Photo Editors
