UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON. The College of Built Environments at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle is seeking a dynamic leader for the full-time position of Chair of the Department of Construction Management. The start date for this position is negotiable, but may be as early as July 1, 2020.
The Chair will lead an outstanding department with a history of excellence in research, education, and professional service. The department offers an ACCE-accredited Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree and participates in a college-wide Ph.D. program. The department enjoys an outstanding reputation within the industry and receives strong industry support, including the support of an industry advisory council. The department currently consists of 10 full-time faculty members, 18 affiliated lecturers, 150 undergraduate students, 75 graduate students, and several Ph.D. students. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, scholarship, and service. As department Chair, the successful candidate will provide leadership to the department and help advance the department’s strategic goals, foster the development and advancement of department faculty, administer departmental budgets, develop quarterly teaching schedules, supervise staff, participate in advancement activities, and interface regularly with industry leaders. The Chair will also serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the College and will work collegially with college administrators and staff, and with the Chairs of the other departments to advance the missions of the Department, College and University. The Chair will maintain an average teaching load of three courses a year (negotiable) while serving in this position. The appointment will be tenured and will be made at the associate or full professor level. The base academic appointment is for nine months with two additional months while serving as Chair. The Chair role is a three year renewable term.
An earned doctorate in a construction-related field and a record commensurate of appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Professor at the UW;
Demonstrated leadership experience in areas relevant to the positon of Chair, including: faculty, staff, and student development/mentoring; the establishment and advancement of goals around equity, diversity and inclusion; national committee leadership or service; and working with or within the professional community to build and sustain partnerships;
A national or international reputation for excellence in scholarship in an area relevant to the current or future strength of the department;
A record of innovation
A commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
