AET’s Pavement Division work has expanded beyond state, city, and county road condition reviews and parking lot designs to include advanced materials laboratory testing in asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates; modeling and consulting in pavement design, analysis, and performance; research in pavement design, materials, and performance; and field testing and analysis using non-destructive methods. These varied projects feature AET expertise in a way that allows our pavement staff to be directly involved with decision-makers in public and private road and airfield building organizations around the world.
We are seeking a Senior Pavement Engineer. This position requires a creative and resourceful professional who can independently perform assignments. The position will require an advanced knowledge of pavement design procedures; pavement testing and analysis methods; and an in-depth knowledge of pavement materials including bituminous, concrete; pavement rehabilitation methods; and roadway embankment construction. The position will challenge the engineer and encourage professional growth through:
Developing and executing work plans to meet varied project demands, which may include activities under various civil disciplines (e.g., pavement design, geotechnics, construction materials)
Collaborating with staff company-wide to address project work
Supervising and performing technically demanding and/or complex engineering projects that require advanced knowledge of pavement construction, design, and/or materials.

Perform and/or supervise testing, investigations, evaluations, and recommendations
Prepare engineering reports to communicate results clearly and concisely
Coordinate and assign staff to perform testing and other services
Critically review, edit, and sign technical reports and correspondence of other staff
Maintain professional registrations and current working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, procedures and technologies in designated fields
Prepare proposals and perform marketing duties to meet established goals
Train and appraise staff in procedures and the individual’s areas of expertise

Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and AET’s Health and Safety Policy, and that promotes the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
Maintain valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Some positions may require use of personal vehicle for company business. Maintain compliance with DOT driver regulations if required for position.
Frequent travel required within regional area, with occasional out-of-town travel
Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment
Maintain appropriate physicals if required for position
Coordinate with other AET staff to improve productivity and communication
Develop and maintain business contacts
Represent AET by presenting ideas, solutions, and innovative advancements to clients, peer groups, public audiences, and regulatory agencies. This may include professional publications.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 7 or more years of related experience OR Advanced degree in Civil Engineering with 5 or more years of related experience
Professional registration with one or more state licensing boards and ability to obtain Minnesota PE within 6 months of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to develop and implement creative solutions to a wide range of problems across civil engineering disciplines
Familiarity with critical test procedures for highway pavements and underlying engineering concepts (e.g., falling weight deflectometer, ground penetrating radar, pavement condition index, soil classification and laboratory testing)
Experience using advanced methods of statistical and mechanical analysis (familiarity with Microsoft Excel is required)
Demonstrated skill in cultivating and managing external relationships to generate business development opportunities for self and others
Ability to anticipate, recognize, and manage risk/liability (e.g., reviewing contract terms and conditions and making recommendations for final review by company officer)
Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with co-workers within project teams and to resolve issues in a constructive manner
Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project and client needs
Capable of required physical labor with personal protective equipment and occasionally moving 25- to 50-pound loads
Ability to perform field work including, but not limited to, collecting samples; operating field instruments; following procedures; planning, organizing, and arranging logistics for the project; and documenting field activities and data collected
