East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants for our Associate Civil Engineer (Pipeline Infrastructure) and Associate Civil Engineer (Geotechnical Engineering) vacancies
The current Associate Civil Engineer opening in the Engineering Department’s Pipeline Infrastructure Division, reports to a Senior Engineer and is a registered professional engineer level position in the EBMUD’s engineering career advancement. This division is seeking a motivated professional with experience in pipeline design and project management. The selected candidate will assume a lead role in the evaluation and design of upgrades to EBMUD’s water distribution pipeline system. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate proficiency in conducting facility asset management analyses using ArcGIS or other modelling software; project planning and management; construction and maintenance support and start-up; oral and written communication skills; experience with designing contract bid documents for pipelines; and engineering analyses.
EBMUD’s Geotechnical Engineering Section (GES), part of the Engineering & Construction Department’s Engineering Services Division, is currently seeking an Associate Civil Engineer who is a motivated and energetic team player with experience in geotechnical engineering, project management, evaluations of dams and structures, as well as surveillance monitoring of dams, field investigations and evaluation of municipal water and wastewater structures and facilities. This individual will lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams as a project manager on complex engineering projects. GES supports the Engineering & Construction Department’s Dam Safety Capital Improvement Program, where projects include retrofits to dams, outlet towers, and spillways. Additional geotechnical work includes the evaluation of existing and proposed tunnels, trenchless installations, and deep foundations. The incumbent will also perform complex engineering analyses and calculations as needed.
The salary range for Associate Civil Engineer is $10,150 per month increasing to $10,657, $11,190, $11,750, and $12,338 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Typical means of acquiring the knowledge, skills and abilities required to assume the full-range duties of this position include:
A bachelor’s degree in an ABET–accredited civil, environmental, geotechnical or closely related engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate.
Four years of professional civil or environmental engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree), which included two years of experience at the level of EBMUD’s Assistant Engineer classification.
California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
California specialty registration as a Geotechnical Engineer is highly desirable for the Associate Civil Engineer (Geotechnical Engineering) vacancy.
