We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to join the development team of our next generation secure transportation vehicle, the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT). You will lead the project management effort, as well as perform technical work, and play a key role in the successful development of this critical national security asset.
On any given day, you will be called upon to:
Utilize knowledge of product development work scope and processes to develop and maintain the schedule for the vehicle development effort
Lead efforts identifying/tracking customer work you're doing and collaborate with technical leads and project controls to identify and implement corrective actions as necessary
Lead and handle development of cost estimates and figure out scope, schedule, and risk impacts for changes in customer requirements
Lead efforts to handle, track, and report status of the schedule and costs
Lead the change control process to ensure that changes in the project plan and associated changes in budget, schedule and risks get properly handled, reviewed, and documented
Conduct programmatic reviews and status briefings with the customer, project leadership, and Sandia management
Oversee the project controls effort and implementation of cost and schedule reporting tools
Serve as a project manager collaborating with internal Sandia groups as well as with customers
Lead implementation of the risk management plan and ensure that technical and programmatic risks are properly identified and handled
We are responsible for executing the multi-year development effort for the next generation transporter, the Mobile Guardian Transporter, from conceptual design to production. The department works with multiple internal and external organizations as well as the NNSA customer to plan and successfully execute the program. Members of the Transporter Systems Development department are responsible for providing the programmatic, technical, and system engineering leadership for all aspects of the multi-disciplinary development effort.

You have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a STEM discipline plus more than 5 years' experience in technical project management roles; OR a bachelor’s degree in relevant STEM discipline and 9 or more years related technical experience
You possess at least five years' experience utilizing project management practices and tools to manage to scope, schedule and budget baselines within projects involving technical work scope
Your background included demonstrated ability to work with technical leadership and project controls personnel to monitor and report the status of projects as well as to anticipate project execution issues and take corrective action
You hold a current DOE Q clearance, or equivalent
Ideally, your background would also include:
Experience in a project management leadership role for a large-scale product development program
Experience developing and maintaining a P6 project schedule
Demonstrated effectiveness working in an environment with dynamic conditions, conflicting priorities, and firm deadlines.
Experience briefing customers, senior leadership and executive management
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance to start.
Position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance or active clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD) to be considered for this position.
Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
