The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine?county San Francisco Bay Area.
MTC is recruiting for an Assistant Planning Director, Regional Planning and Policy, who will manage and oversee some of the agency’s highest profile regional planning; provide strategic direction on long-range planning topics, scopes and milestones; guide the development of technical analyses; monitor and fulfill federal and state statutory requirements and guidelines related to long-range planning; oversee major transportation plans and studies; guide the agency’s efforts with regional goods movement planning; and oversee the integration of resilience and hazards planning.
The ideal candidate must have significant knowledge and experience in transportation and land use planning including the management of major plans and studies; demonstrated knowledge of regional planning best practices including the integration of equity, economic development and environment; demonstrated experience in the planning for major infrastructure projects and in crafting and communicating public policy recommendations; possess critical analytical and strategic capabilities; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and agency peers; and experience in employee and staff performance management and mentoring.
Candidates must have a Master’s degree in an appropriate field such as transportation planning or engineering, project management, public finance, economics, business or public administration, and at least four (4) years of relevant experience related to the area of assignment. A Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience is an alternative qualification.
