Responsible for the design and construction of county public improvement projects. Perform specialized functions related to the County's engineering projects. Technical or policy problems are discussed with the supervisor before taking action. Work assignments are usually broad in scope and require the use of judgment in making difficult technical decisions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Works under the direction of and with other Public Works staff to perform professional engineering design and/or construction on roads, bridges, drainage, airports and other County improvement projects. Uses computer programs to do engineering analysis, prepares construction plans and exhibits using CAD and GIS and creates engineering related specifications, reports and studies. Administers complex contracts as part of the capital improvement program. (75%)
Performs field inspections related to design projects to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Works with survey and right?of?way staff as needed to support project design. (10%)
Works with other government, utilities and private entities as needed on specific projects involving development impacting public right?of?way and in support of other County interests. (10%)
Performs other job-related duties as assigned. (5%)
To possess knowledge of the principles and practices of professional civil engineering.
To possess and continually update your considerable knowledge of methods and techniques of design, construction, and maintenance of public improvement projects.
To demonstrate your ability to perform technical research work.
To continually add to your skill in making engineering computations, estimates, designs, and in preparing plans and specifications and technical reports.
Extensive experience with and working knowledge of computer aided design software, GIS software and common office software programs.
To maintain a professional work environment and businesslike appearance.
To develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other employees, representatives of other organizations, and the public.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in civil engineering or related field.
A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the county for the purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, making reports, or soliciting cooperation.
Professional Engineering License preferred. Valid Arizona driver's license required.
