The Communications Engineer will be responsible for the design, production and sustainment on a U.S. Air Force contract to develop or procure hardware and software that can be integrated, tested, fielded, and supported as networked command and control solutions that enhance Warfighter effectiveness. The Communications Engineer is responsible for designing and production of a suite of communications equipment to support the Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP). The Communications Engineer will work directly with the Chief Engineer to ensure a rapid and responsive provision of the program requirements. Note: This position is contingent upon contract award expected by June 30, 2018.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
Derive requirements, identify risks and determine probability/impacts, and develop mitigation strategies to the overall communications integration strategy
Evaluate and recommend new products, solutions and designs in response to requirements
Utilize expert knowledge of tactical data links to plan, design, integrate, configure, test, document and support On-the-Move communications (RF, mobile, SATCOM, etc.)
Assist, support and collaborate with peers in the development of tools and equipment for lab test and integration activities within the Tactical Communications arena
Review functional and design specifications to ensure full understanding of individual deliverables
Identify and trace requirements from System Requirements Document (SRD), System/Subsystem Specification (SSS), and Statement of Work (SOW)
Assist and support tactical communications component testing efforts
Identify any potential quality issues per defined process and escalate potential quality issues immediately to management •Ensure that validated deliverables meet functional and design specifications and requirements
Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics) to include adherence to Data Item Description (DID) standard formatted reports
Review and analyze complex task statements, standards, specifications, and other documentation to determine/document/derive user, functional and component level engineering requirements for tactical IT systems
Conduct market research/trade studies to identify products based on hardware and software requirements/specifications •Conduct technical demonstrations
Design/Develop/Document new and modifications to existing tactical IT systems
Establish test plans and determine appropriate test criteria and procedures •Identify risks and appropriate mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with engineering processes, and DoD directives and policies •Provide technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks
Implement and support iGov’s ISO 9000:2015 and CMMI policies and procedures.
Maintain schedules and ensure deliverables are on time and within budget.
Other related engineering duties as assigned
8 to 10 years of engineering experience (design, operation, programming/configuration, troubleshooting, etc.) with the Tactical Radio variants (such as the AN/PRC-117G)
Expert knowledge of tactical data links to plan, design, integrate, configure, test, document and support On-the-Move communications (RF, mobile, SATCOM, etc.)
Networking experience in a Cisco environment.
Familiar with Project Management (PM) approaches, project lifecycles, and tools.
Bachelor of Science Degree required in business or engineering discipline. Advanced degree in engineering or business preferred.
Travel: Travel may be required.
Clearance Statement: Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. The optimal candidate shall possess an active Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred)
