We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Research Officer (RO) to support our Construction Portfolio. The RO would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration.
The primary responsibility of the RO is to support the goals of NRC and the Construction Research Centre through research of international calibre and the development and application of advanced technologies. The RO works in a team environment with researchers and technical experts in world-class facilities. Activities also include the development of proposals for new research initiatives, project management, and providing service to NRC clients. The RO provides input into the overall direction and research priorities for the program area within the context of the Construction Research Centre business plan.
This position will provide direct support to an initiative on the long term impact of climate change on buildings and infrastructure. Climate models will be used to predict future climatic loads. The impact of these loads will be assessed on existing, and new, buildings and infrastructure and mitigation approaches will be developed. The challenge will be to create codes and guidelines to ensure that the expected life cycle performance of the building or infrastructure is adequate under the effects of climatic change. The codes and guidelines will be developed for the design of new structures, and for the rehabilitation, or upgrade of existing. The incumbent will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which is being assembled to complete this challenging project.
Significant hands-on experience working in the field of Civil engineering in the area of roads and pavements.
Significant experience in assessment of stakeholders, research proposal development, and project execution including staff coordination, documentation, and reporting.
Significant experience in experimental design and analysis, including data collection and analysis, overseeing data production, and ensuring data quality.
Significant experience in communication in a variety of ways including both written and oral presentations to a broad range of audiences, such as industry, construction trades, community professionals, review committees.
Experience related to climate change adaptation, or assessment of impact of climate change on infrastructure would be an asset.

The RO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast.
