The Research Associate has the primary responsibility for oversight and performance of Tran-SET research, education, workforce development and outreach program. Duties include: Develop requests for proposals based on identified research priorities; solicit, evaluate and conduct peer review of proposals; collect and synthesize review comments on proposals; prepare technical and administrative reports and proposals; coordinate program development awards; represent director as necessary.
The incumbent will contribute to the synthesis and presentation of results of supported research to various audiences, and will link closely to related educational and outreach functions of Tran-SET UTC. The Research Associate works closely to connect research with outreach efforts through interactions and collaborations with the center’s stakeholders, partners and advisory board. In addition, the position is responsible for the oversight of graduate and undergraduate student employees assisting in project management.
Further, working in collaboration with department of transportation management, this position requires strong skills in program reporting and working knowledge of US-DOTD and OST best practices, reporting requirements, implementation and evaluation process. The research associate will be expected to provide guidance and leadership on scientific and research issues.
The position serves as the primary liaison with the Tran-SET’s Advisory board, transportation agencies and partner institutions in region 6 as well as state DOTs in region 6. In addition, the incumbent interacts on a regular basis with the research community, as well as other transportation centers in the US. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering and 2-4 years of related experience or Ph.D. in a closely related field. Superior oral and written communications and interpersonal skills are essential. Excellent computer and statistical skills are essential.
Desired Qualifications: Experience in research, research program management is recommended. Candidates with demonstrated capabilities in the management and performance of transportation related academic programs and with a publication record are encouraged to apply.
