| New Hanover County is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to join our Engineering team and serve the citizens of our County as Chief Project Engineer. The position of Chief Project Engineer will challenge you within an environment that fosters teamwork, participation and professional development. Duties will include reviewing and approving private development construction plans for compliance with land development ordinances and regulations; drainage, storm water, and erosion control projects to include designing and permitting, defining contract requirements, preparing bids, negotiating contracts, determining County liability, developing budgets and schedules, and coordinating bond issuances; supervising staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff is trained, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations; providing engineering services to other County departments as needed, and representing NHC Engineering on the Technical Review Committee (TRC). In addition, this position provides unique opportunities to contribute to the County's efforts in various areas including assisting with Sediment and Erosion Control and Coastal Infrastructure as needed. |
New Hanover County's Engineering Department is comprised of a team of 8 dedicated professionals who stay committed to the County's goal of intelligent growth and economic development by providing services in the areas of plan review, sedimentation and erosion control, shore protection and coastal infrastructure, storm water management and drainage. We review over 200 plans and plats, address over 300 drainage matters and design engineered solutions to address the needs within the unincorporated county. Our approach focuses on compliance, rather than enforcement, in an effort to remain effective, efficient, consistent, responsive and easy to do business with as we strive to assist New Hanover County be viewed as the model of good governance.
