The primary function of the Technical Principal, Airframes is to support the successful operation of the Company’s Aerospace West Materials Testing Division. Of key importance in this role is the implementation and support of technical programs, directives and benchmarks which reinforce and sustain the Company’s goal of delivering best-in-class operational and technical excellence through the cycle of the materials testing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to operational staff throughout the various labs. The Technical Principal is a senior individual contributor and does not directly supervise staff.
Work to grow the Company’s market share in materials testing for airframe materials and components such as plates, fasteners, forgings and castings.
Maintain an in-depth understanding and knowledge of airframe materials testing methodologies. This includes testing methodologies related to composites and metallic materials. Work closely with engineers and testing technicians to effectively communicate and transfer this knowledge and train them on test methods and specifications.
Continually review, refine and implement testing protocols and procedures (such as fatigue, fracture toughness and crack propagation) to identify improvement opportunities and to ensure testing is performed accurately and in accordance with all standards and specifications.
Develop and implement airframe testing methods that are currently not being used.
Review technical concepts throughout the testing process and personally participate in solving particularly difficult technical problems.
Participate in and/or lead the process of transferring testing technology and processes to other facilities as needed.
Oversee the execution of action plans related to highly technical customer projects.
Provide leadership and counsel on the resolution of customer complaints regarding technical issues. Provide specialized technical assistance to team members where needed.
Obtain and maintain the full relevant scope of Prime approvals.
Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and suppliers, as well as colleagues throughout the facility as well and the Company at large. Work to develop and win additional work from customers.
Provide regular updates to the Executive Team on market development and opportunities for market growth.
Understand the Company’s quality assurance program and ensure that all technical guidance and/or solutions fall within the purview of the QA program.
Update as necessary and implement training modules for all SOPs to aid in training of new technicians as well as refresher training for existing technicians.
Represent the Company as appropriate in relationships with customers, vendors, employees and other relevant stakeholders.
To perform this position successfully, an individual must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience with aerospace components and extensive knowledge with the following:
Various metals and composite materials utilized in airframe structures
Low cycle/high cycle fatigue testing
Stress rupture/creep testing
Familiarity with aerospace specifications.
Familiarity with aerospace structural design practices.
Familiarity with NADCAP and ISO standards.
Ability to read and interpret machining blueprints and specifications.
Familiarity with lean/business improvement principles.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Availability, flexibility, and maturity to represent the company at a broad range of events/projects in the community, with customers and within the company.
Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs.
Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
Strong interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect.
BS/MS in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Aerospace Engineering (or related science degree)
