The Assistant City Engineer Transportation Planning and Safety Division
The Assistant City Engineer Transportation Planning and Safety Division will be selected by and report to the City Engineer. This position will manage the Transportation Planning and Safety Division which includes Bus Rapid Transit and Light Rail Transit planning, bicycle infrastructure, pedestrian safety, sidewalks, site plan review, and maps & records. This position will direct and align department resources and priorities with internal and external needs.
The successful candidate will be someone with the skills to manage and lead a talented, multi-disciplinary staff and the ability to work with a variety of interests within city government and in the larger community. She/he will be a person of vision, enthusiasm and conviction about the importance of the City’s transportation infrastructure, sustainability, and diversity goals.
The successful candidate will have proven knowledge and experience with project and people management; long and short term project planning; forecasting budgets in a rapidly changing environment; traffic calming techniques; pedestrian safety strategies; bicycle planning and implementation; municipal codes, ordinances and zoning; writing federal and state funding applications; and grant writing.
The Assistant City Engineer – Street Engineering & Construction
The Assistant City Engineer Street Engineering & Construction will be selected by and report to the City Engineer. This position will oversee the Street Design and Construction Division which is responsible for the design, management, and inspection of all city street construction projects.?
This position requires someone with the ability to plan and execute 5-7 major construction projects annually including overseeing funding, financing, and bidding. The successful candidate will have experience with roadway design; construction inspection; managing a large staff of engineers and construction inspectors; and managing relationships with and the work product of consultants. In addition, the successful applicant will be an innovative thinker, capable of finding solutions to complex issues, implementing quality measures, and executing solid project management methodology. We are looking for talented applicants with the ability to communicate and interact with the public and policy makers, and the ability to think and perform creatively with limited resources.
