This Welding - Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) will initially have responsibility for supporting scroll compressor new product weld process development. AME has two primary areas of focus, defining, developing and maintaining manufacturing process standards for existing products and defining what is possible on planned products prior to spending commitments for capacity. The role will require interaction with manufacturing site engineers, design engineering, product engineering, new product program management and support functions like supply chain, accounting, and logistics typically at multiple sites.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (others may be added):
- Be hands on in area of expertise. Direct and support activities at the work cell being developed, refined, or improved. Idea is to methodically learn and teach to improve capability and lower cost structure. - Actively search for new manufacturing technologies and translate into opportunities for new and existing products. Define the standard going forward. - Support preparation for and implementation of new product strategies. Significant input on equipment selection, process parameters, measurement methods, layout, material movements, expectations for cycles, utilization, and capability. - Cooperate and participate in product design activities to assure optimum utilization of new manufacturing technologies, manufacturability/capability and costs. - Support and consider environmental, health, and safety initiatives related to area of expertise in plans and proposals for new and existing processes. - Support productivity projects by representing the operations function by supplying capital, expense, and conversion information as required. - Project assignments will require significant travel (35 - 40%) with some travel being outside North America. For scroll travel will be to Monterrey MX. Traveling assignments typically deal with equipment purchases/investigation, process implementation, and occasional problem solving in support of other projects within area of expertise.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or similar discipline) and at least 7 years of weld engineering and/or advanced manufacturing work experience required; OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS or KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience developing and implementing various welding methods - Proven experience with equipment, work holding, and process parameter selection. - Proven experience with handling multiple complex projects simultaneously. - Good verbal and written communication skills to work up and down within the organization. - Ability to work in a team environment. - Good planning and organization/work management skills. - Results oriented/self-starter with desire to learn and teach. - Familiarity with equipment controls, manufacturing support software (drawing/modeling tools, simulation tools), and general office software. - Aptitude for mechanical/electrical application as related to equipment/processes. - Problem assessment and problem solving skills. - Familiarity with Six Sigma, lean, and other analytical tools and procedures.
