The City of Cambridge, Department of Public Works is seeking an Assistant Project Manager with 6 to 8 years of experience in Construction, Architecture, or Owner’s Project Management. This position will support a capital plan altering the City’s diverse building portfolio to achieve sustainable, low maintenance, high-performance facilities.
Projects vary in size, scope and complexity and have been prioritized based on condition, impact on stakeholders, greenhouse gas reduction, and funding. Projects include partial and complete alterations with estimated values of $2 to $20 million. as well as deferred maintenance projects across multiple buildings for accessibility, fire and life safety, repointing and sealants, window and roof replacements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Clerk of Works duties at active construction sites ensuring work is completed successfully as specified.
Participate in milestone project team review meetings with consultants.
Review consultant construction documents at project milestones and prior to procurement.
Coordinate and support continued departmental operations in occupied buildings.
Coordinate projects with in-house facilities team.
Periodically represent the Owner at construction project team meetings.
Demonstrate flexibility in managing a variety of responsibilities
May perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Demonstrated success in Design, Construction or Owner’s Project Management particularly for alterations to existing and historic buildings.
Demonstrate understanding of deferred maintenance projects across multiple buildings for accessibility, fire and life safety.
Experience in all phases of construction, project closeout, and occupancy.
Demonstrated experience in review of construction documents, project schedules, and estimates.
Demonstrated understanding of architectural and engineering detailing, and systems.
Experience with projects focused on sustainable design, and preferably net zero energy.
Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills
Bachelor of Science in Construction Project Management, Architecture, or related field.
LEED Green Associate or LEED AP in Building Design and Construction credential.
Thorough understanding of Commonwealth of Massachusetts public procurement laws MGL Ch. 149 and 25A.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or BIM and Microsoft Office Suite.
Interpersonal skills to professionally represent the City of Cambridge.
