The City of Orinda is looking for a talented dedicated professional with strong technical and interpersonal skills to serve in the capacity of Assistant Engineer or Associate Engineer in the Public Works/Engineering Department under the direction of the Senior Civil Engineer.
Some primary duties of the Assistant Engineer position (but not limited to):
Knowledge & practice of civil engineering, including design, construction & maintenance requirements of public works projects;
Ability to conduct engineering studies & prepare reports with recommendations;
Ability to read, interpret & apply a wide variety of technical information from manuals & drawings;
Prepare, understand and interpret engineering specs to ensure compliance with City standards & government requirements.
Some primary duties of the Associate Engineer position (but not limited to):
Ability to determine the scope of engineering projects; prepare RFP & contracts for consulting services; develop plans, maps, specs and other contract documents for a variety of projects;
Review plans of consulting engineers and private contractors related to structures, such as streets, sidewalks, gutters, and other off-site construction;
Serve as program manager over assigned program areas, such as the Storm Water Program
Process final parcel and tract maps, bonds, and deeds required for projects.
Assistant: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related field required and two (2) years of responsible experience in civil engineering. Possession of certification as an Engineer-in-Training desirable. CA Driver’s license required.
Associate: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or related field required and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in civil engineering. Possession of a license as a Professional Civil Engineer by the CA State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists required. CA Driver’s License required.
