Position and Duties
The San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (formerly known as the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant) is an advanced wastewater treatment facility that treats water from homes and businesses in the cities of San José, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and unincorporated areas within Santa Clara County. The Regional Wastewater Facility occupies 160 acres of land, consisting of over 20 buildings on site.
The City’s Environmental Services Department is currently recruiting for a highly motivated Senior Engineer to oversee the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineering and Asset Management section comprising of six full-time employees, including engineers, engineering technicians and Geographic System Specialists. This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of the San José/Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF).
Key Responsibilities may include:
Leads and manages various staff in O&M Engineering, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) group.
Project management for various O&M projects
Manages professional service contracts for design of various O&M projects
Design oversight and project management for various O&M construction projects
Procurement of construction contracts, professional services, various service contracts for repairs, rehabilitation of various treatment process areas.
Manages staff, workgroups and activities of the Asset Management and GIS sections, including program planning, development and implementation; monitoring system performance metrics; O&MEngineering Support section
Coordinates the Asset Management (Above Ground Assets) and GIS (Below Ground Assets) Program requirements with the Regional Wastewater Facility O&M Capital Improvement Program staff
Develops project proposals and work plans for O&M, and support and/or assist capital improvement Project Managers in the development of their proposals, as needed
Establishes g standard specifications, details, and standard operating procedures
Establishing and overseeing risk-based methodologies to manage all assets

Education: Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Sanitary Engineering or closely related field. A Master degree in these fields or a related field is highly desirable.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Wastewater Treatment, Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Sanitary Engineering or closely related field.
Licenses or Certificates: Professional Engineer (PE) Certification in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering. If candidate possesses PE license from another state, a California P.E. must be obtained within one year of date of hire. Candidate must also possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class C California Driver License.
